How NCDMV appointments work
North Carolina driver license offices take walk-ins all day, until the office is full, and appointments up to 7 days ahead. Appointments are optional; depending on the office and time of day, walking in may be faster. License plate agencies don't take appointments.

Many renewals, replacements and address changes can be done on myNCDMV or at a kiosk. Take our 4-question check first.

Book up to 7 days ahead
On NCDMV's appointment site, pick the service (driver license, ID card, teen driver, CDL or motorcycle knowledge test) and an office. New slots open each weekday.

Confirm within 15 minutes
NCDMV texts or emails a link. Confirm within 15 minutes, and again within 24 hours of the reminder sent 4 days before, or the appointment is cancelled.

Arrive on time
15 minutes or more late cancels it. Road tests aren't given after 4 p.m.
