How Maryland MVA appointments work

Maryland's 24 MVA branches handle licenses, IDs, titles and registration, by appointment. Many renewals, replacements and address changes skip the branch: myMVA online and 24-hour kiosks do them. Emissions (VEIP) tests are at separate stations, with no appointment.
  1. 1

Check if you can skip it

Renewals (when your notice allows), replacements and address changes work on myMVA or at a 24-hour kiosk. Take our 3-question check first.

  2. 2

    Book on myMVA

Pick the right appointment type; new residents choose 'New to Maryland'. Fill in any pre-application first.

  3. 3

    Go at the right time

Most branches are open weekdays 8:30 to 4:30, Saturday 8 to noon, and until 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month.

  4. 4

    Bring originals

MVA doesn't accept copies, scans or photos of documents. Cards are mailed in 7 to 10 business days.

  5. 5

    Save your plan
