Online or at a kiosk you need the plate number or VIN and your license. At your county tag office, bring these.

Your renewal notice, or your plate number
Counties send notices as a courtesy; the deadline stands either way. Most counties renew by midnight on the first owner's birthday.
Your Georgia driver's license or ID
Kiosks need a valid Georgia license.
Insurance on file
Georgia liability insurance of at least $25,000 per person, $50,000 per crash and $25,000 for property damage, reported electronically by your insurer. An insurance card alone isn't accepted as proof.
A passing emissions test, in the 13 metro Atlanta counties
Only if it applies
Sent to the tag office electronically. Test within 12 months before your birthday.
Payment
$20 for a car or light pickup, plus yearly ad valorem tax for most cars bought before March 1, 2013. All-electric cars add $238.59. Online and kiosk convenience fees vary by county.
