Registering a car you bought
Take these to the tag office in the county where you live, within 7 business days of a private sale.

The title, signed over to you
With your full legal name, the date and the mileage, and any old liens released. Cars 1985 and older don't need a title: bring a bill of sale (DOR's form T-7 works).
Form MV-1, title and tag application
You can start it online before you go.
Your Georgia driver's license or ID
New residents get their Georgia license first.
Insurance
Filed electronically by your insurer, or an insurance binder.
An emissions certificate, in the 13 metro Atlanta counties
Only if it applies
The seller should have a passing test on file at the time of sale.
Form MV-16, if it's a family transfer
Only if it applies
Cuts the tax to 0.5% when the car has a Georgia title and its tax was paid.
Payment
$18 title, $20 plate, and the 7% title ad valorem tax on the state's value of the car.
