How Washington DOL appointments work

Washington's driver licensing offices serve customers by appointment; DOL says walk-in service is extremely limited or may be unavailable. New residents must book. Most knowledge and drive tests aren't at DOL offices at all: they're at driver training schools and testing locations. Vehicle tabs and titles are done at separate vehicle licensing offices, which take walk-ins.

Check if you can skip it

Most renewals, replacements and address changes can be done in License Express. Take our 3-question check first.

    Book the office

On DOL's scheduler or in License Express. Offices release extra same-day appointments each morning, so check early if you need one soon.

  3. 3

Book tests with a testing location

Knowledge and drive tests are mostly given by driver training schools and testing locations, which set their own fees. A few DOL offices test on set days.

  4. 4

    Go on the right day

Most offices are open Tuesday to Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday, and open an hour later on Thursdays.
