  1. 1Is the car insured right now?

    Virginia requires insurance of at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per crash for injuries and $25,000 for property damage (50/100/25) for the whole registration period. Paying a fee instead of insuring ended in July 2024.

  2. 2Is the car kept in Northern Virginia?

    Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William or Stafford County, or the City of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas or Manassas Park. These need an emissions test every 2 years.

  3. 3Do you owe local personal property tax, parking tickets or tolls, or has DMV told you there's a stop on your registration?
