How Virginia DMV appointments work
Virginia's DMV Customer Service Centers offer three ways in: an appointment (Monday to Friday), an E-Ticket that holds your place in line the same day, or walking in during open hours, Saturday mornings included. DMV Selects, run by localities and a few businesses, do vehicle work only and set their own rules.

Check if you can skip it
More than 50 transactions are online, including most license renewals every other time, replacements, address changes and registration renewals. Take our 4-question check first.

Book, reserve or walk in
Book a weekday appointment on DMV's site, or get an E-Ticket: choose the office and scan its QR code or text its code to 89247, then text "I am here" when you arrive.

Arrive in time for tests
Walk-ins for the knowledge exam or road test must be there by 4:30 p.m. on weekdays or 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Vehicle only? Try a DMV Select
Titles, registration and plates can be done at a DMV Select, often closer to home. They don't do licenses, permits or IDs.
