Your out-of-state license
You surrender it. Expired more than 6 months means the knowledge and road tests too.
From CA, CT, IL, NV or WV: your driving record (MVR)
Only if it applies
From your old state, issued within 30 days.
Proof of citizenship or lawful presence
A U.S. birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, green card or certificate of citizenship or naturalization, for example.
Your Social Security number
Your card or a W-2, 1099 or pay stub showing it.
2 proofs of Tennessee residency
Two documents with your name and Tennessee address, dated within the last 4 months: a utility bill, bank statement, mortgage, or a lease with a recent landlord letter, for example. No photocopies.
Payment
$28 for 8 years.
For your car, at the county clerk: your title and registration
Only if it applies
Within 30 days. No sales tax on a car you owned before moving, and no inspection.
