How to make a California DMV appointment
Drive tests are only given by appointment. For other visits you can book ahead or walk in. Here's how to book.

Fill in the application online
For a permit, first license, ID card or REAL ID, complete the online application and upload your documents. Keep the confirmation code.

Pick an office and time
Book on California DMV's appointment page, or call (800) 777-0133.

No appointment? Get in line online
Field offices serve walk-ins too, and you can join the line from your phone. Express offices don't take appointments.
