Mail these to DMV or take them to a field office within 10 days of the sale.

Lost? The seller files REG 227 with it.
Odometer reading
For cars under 10 years old, on the title or form REG 262.
Smog certificate from the seller
Only if it applies
From the last 90 days. Not needed for gas cars 4 model years or newer, or most family transfers.
Bill of sale (REG 135)
Only if it applies
If the seller isn't the owner named on the title.
Statement of Facts (REG 256)
Only if it applies
For family transfers and gifts.
Payment
$15 transfer fee, use tax at your local rate and any registration due.
