From 15 years and 6 months. Pass the knowledge test first (at home for teens, or at any MVD office), then visit an office for your photo.

Proof of identity and lawful presence
An original or certified U.S. birth certificate or U.S. passport. Hospital records and California abstracts aren't accepted.
